Theme
The song is the first collaboration between Seion Gomez and Mark Loquan, and Seion’s first step as a composer/arranger. Seion had already arranged several of Mark’s songs over the years, so the collaboration was not an unexpected development. As fate would have it, with both now on the opposite sides of the globe (with Mark now based in Australia), the two would venture in the studio, co-composing the piece Outta De Box. A reunion with the energetic Shanaqua, was also not unnatural as she performed Mark’s offering in 2000, Passion for Pan.
The song lyrics by Gregory “GB” Ballantyne, captured the theme of going out of the box, stepping out of the crease with something new.
Most bands look for something different, some way to differentiate themselves, to do or say something new, to take some risks. Here the team set out on a fresh melody and to take some risks. One can even hear improvising in the bridge and the trumpet soloing at the end of the song adding to the difference from most songs offered for the Panorama season. Junior “Ibo” Joseph produced the song, feeling the song as Outta De Box from the very beginning, with great vibes in the team involved.
