Lyrics
1st Verse
Fire in meh soul
Burn away
A desire not to
Turn away
Gifted talent, use it, you and me
Lifted up on music, show de world T&T
(Just be a believer
For a brighter new future) repeat
Chorus
We……..
We go find, de strife we can’t ignore
Doh be blind, live yuh life .....is more than fighting war
(From the anger and sorrow
Build a better tomorrow) repeat
(Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, na na nah, na nah, na nigh) repeat
2nd Verse
Do not wait until
It’s too late
It’s a real struggle..to
Forge our fate
Some may choose to run and, some may stay
Let’s not waste no more time, it can be a new day
(Let’s build the foundation
For all our children) repeat
Chorus
We……..
We go find, de strife we can’t ignore
Doh be blind, live yuh life .....is more than fighting war
(Build a better tomorrow
From the anger and sorrow) repeat
(Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, Nigh, na na nah, na nah, na nigh) repeat
3rd Verse
Stormy weather, we can
Find our way
Face the world together
Every day
It can be a real tough …..uphill climb
T&T, enough (pause)…..find the strength in our mind
(We all have the power, to help one another
We all have the power to lift up each other)
EXTENDED CHORUS
We……
We go find, de strife we can’t ignore
Doh be blind, live yuh life .....is more than fighting war
(From the anger and sorrow
Build a better tomorrow) repeat
Let’s build the foundation
For all our children
We all have the power
To help one another
OUTRO
Oh……
We go find, de strife we can’t ignore
Doh be blind, live yuh life .....is more than fighting war

Theme: There can always be a better tomorrow through the choices we make for ourselves, through the power of the mind, through the use of our talent, or how we choose to lift up others
In mid-2020, there was a lot of uncertainty which was being observed, including protests from George Floyd’s death raging across the USA, local unrest at Sea Lots, Port of Spain, Trinidad, and a world dealing with a global pandemic, resulting in deaths, economic meltdowns, mental and social distancing.
The song A Better Tomorrow was composed and written to channel the feelings of anger, grief, sorrow, and loss of hope in an environment of uncertainty, and to use our energy to shift our mindsets to overcome challenges and not give up. The song was produced by Junior “Ibo” Joseph, and sung by reigning Calypso Monarch, Terri Lyons with Gerelle Forbes doing the background vocals.
Getting the video done was the challenging part in a COVID-constrained world. Gerelle who had also produced my 2019 song “My Home” was asked once more to fully utilise her creativity to produce the video. The story changed a few times to suit the constraints along the way, until we decided to go full animation mode, with the storyline showing how one conquers their own monsters and fears, and focus their mind and will, to achieve one’s goals and objectives, through actions. Being directed to use GemGfx Animation Studios, with Everard McBain and Dixie Ann Archer-McBain, peaked my interest, They were developing Anime episodes (called Jumbie) at the time and it certainly was out of my comfort zone. We decided to combine for the first time such Anime style with calypso/soca to tell the story developed by Gerelle, which would also shine a light on our own local talent, certainly fitting with the lines “Gifted talent, use it, you and me, lifted up on music, show the world T&T.” In about 5 months, the video was ready to go.
